Raksha Mantri Reviews Preparations of  Indian Navy View Cyclone 'Vayu'

The Hon’ble Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh reviewed the preparedness of Indian Navy along the Maharashtra & Gujarat coast in view of the approaching Cyclone Vayu at Naval Headquarters, New Delhi this on 13 June 2019.

He was briefed about the ability & readiness of various assets of Headquarters Western Naval Command that have been made ready to be  deployed to the affected areas in case of requirement.

The Western Naval Ships, Mumbai is closely monitoring the developing situation. IN Ships Chennai, Gomati and Deepak at Mumbai have been embarked with Relief Material, and are ready to be deployed at short notice. In addition, 5000 litres of drinking water is also being embarked on board IN ships. Seven IN aircraft and three helicopters are standby for deployment. Two Diving & Rescue teams and three Medical teams are ready to render necessary assistance. Preparations have been undertaken to setup community kitchen at Dwarka and Porbandar. Aircraft and helicopters will be deployed for the damage assessment and Search and Rescue operations as required.

Cyclone 'Vayu' - Indian Navy Preparations

The Indian Navy reviewed all preparatory actions in coordination with State/ Civil administration of Gujarat for Cyclone 'Vayu'.

Indian Navy on Standby Notice in View of Cyclone 'Vayu'

The following preparatory actions have been initiated by Headquarters, Western Naval Command, Mumbai to respond expeditiously to the developing situation in view of Cyclone Vayu:-

State Administration, local District authorities and Indian Coast Guard authorities have been directed to caution fishermen against proceeding to sea and take all necessary precautions in view of inclement weather.

Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief bricks and relief material have been embarked on board nominated ships of the Command and are ready to be deployed at short notice.

Indian Navy ships operating at sea and aircraft/ Helicopters on routine sorties have been directed to inform fishing vessels operating at sea and advise them to return to harbour.

Indian Navy Diving and Rescue Teams and Relief Material have been kept standby for rendering assistance to civil authorities, as required.

Medical teams and facilities at Indian Naval Hospital Asvini at Mumbai are standby to handle medical emergencies.

P8I and IL aircraft are standby to undertake Search and Rescue missions as required.

Headquarters, Offshore Defence and Advisory Group has also issued an advisory on cyclone 'Vayu' to all offshore platforms.
