INS Sandhayak, First of Four Survey Vessel Large Project has been Commissioned

INS Sandhayak, first of four Survey Vessel Large project has been commissioned into Indian Navy in presence of Shri Rajnath Singh, Hon’ble RM on 03 Feb 2024. The commissioning ceremony was held at Naval Dockyard Visakhapatnam, marked a significant step in advancing the potential of Indian Navy in the field of hydrographic and oceanographic survey operations. Hon'ble RM highlighted the vessel's significance in bolstering Indian Navy's capabilities. The event was attended by CNS and other distinguished guests including senior naval officials and industry leaders, symbolizing the collaborative effort behind the commissioning of the ship. The ship is equipped with state of the art Hydrographic and Oceanographic equipment including Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV), Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV), and Multibeam Echosounder (MBES). These equipment will enable in conducting precise and comprehensive surveys of the underwater terrain, thereby contributing not only to the safety of navigation but also enhancing awareness about the underwater domain in our areas of maritime interest. The ship was built at GRSE Kolkata and has over 80% indigenous content re-affirming India's expertise in design and warship construction. The 110 meter ship, displacing about 3800 tons is powered by two diesel engines and has been re-incarnated in its present avatar from erstwhile INS Sandhayak which was decommissioned on 04 Jun 21. In its secondary role the ship is capable of undertaking range of naval operations including HADR missions and hospital support ship. This significant event not only marks the integration of advanced survey vessel into our naval arsenal but also underscores our commitment to enhance naval capabilities in the field of hydrographic survey, technological innovation and maritime research.
