INHS Sanjivani Achieves Rare Feat

INHS Sanjivani, the Naval Hospital at Kochi, has been adjudged the best Naval Hospital and the trophy was presented to the Commanding Officer by Lieutenant General MK Unni, AVSM, VSM, PHS, Director General Armed Forces Medical Services and Colonel Commandant in the presence of Surgeon Vice Admiral Bipin Puri, Director General Medical Service (Navy) and other senior dignitaries.

Integrated Headquarters of the Ministry of Defence (Navy) has recently constituted the Director General Medical Services (Navy) Trophy for the best Naval Hospital based on creative innovation, scientific research and enhancing hospital services/ patient care. The competition for the same was held on 11 November 2016 at Mumbai during the XXXll Annual Conference of Marine Medicine & Allied Sciences.

INHS Sanjivani has also entered the elite NABH (National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Health care Providers) program and has been awarded the pre-accreditation entry level certification. With this, the hospital has become the first in the Navy and among only three such hospitals in the entire Armed Forces Medical Services to achieve this milestone.

Earlier, the Govt. of India had also accorded an approval in principal, for expansion of the hospital to a super speciality hospital with additional beds, doctors, staff and equipment. This is the first zonal level military hospital in the country to be thus upgraded. The proposed hospital will provide comprehensive super speciality care like Oncology, Oncosurgery, Cardiology, Nephrology, Neurology and Cardiothoracic Surgery to all service personnel, their dependents and veterans of the three uniform services in this region.
    
The hospital has also been actively involved with Indian Medical Association (IMA) for blood donation. A blood donation camp was organized on 22 November and 24 November 2016 in collaboration with IMA Kochi Blood Bank. The camp was inaugurated by Surgeon Rear Admiral MS Prakash, Command Medical Officer of Southern Naval Command. A large number of serving personnel and their families including the Flag Officer Commanding- in-Chief of SNC, Vice Admiral A R Karve, AVSM, participated in the blood donation camp. Blood collected during the camp would be utilized by IMA blood bank for treating needy civilian patients at various hospitals in and around Kochi.
    
Incidentally INHS Sanjivani is the largest Military Hospital in the state of Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
