INHS Asvini Successfully Performed Indian Navy's First Ever Allogenic Bonemarrow Transplant at its Haematology and Bone Marrow Transplant Unit

INHS Asvini successfully performed Indian Navy's first ever Allogenic Bone Marrow Transplant at its Haematology and Bone Marrow Transplant Unit, to join the select group of centres able to perform BMT in India. The hematopoietic stem cell transplant was performed on a serving IAF Warrior’s son, suffering from chemorefractory acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, using the father’s stem cells for curing his blood cancer. The success of allogenic transplant is a significant boost to Naval medical facilities by achieving self-sufficiency besides reducing load on the limited centres providing allogenic BMT.
