Exercise ‘Viman’ Conducted by the Southern Naval Command

Exercise ‘Viman’ was conducted by the Southern Naval Command off Chetti beach, Kerala on 03 October 2017, to test the response of various agencies to handle an aircraft crash over land. During the exercise, air assets from INS Garuda including Dornier, Seaking 42 C, Chetak, ALH helicopters and Remotely Piloted Aircraft were used. In addition, ground search and rescue party undertook search for the crashed aircraft and a crash and salvage team was exercised for salvage of the aircraft. The simulation of the crash was initiated by the aircrew and an aircraft dummy model was used for simulating the crashed aircraft.
