Swachhta Pakhwada at Eastern Naval Command

All ships and establishments under ENC conducted various activities towards spreading awareness about keeping our surroundings Clean, Green, Litter and Plastic-free under Swachhta Pakhwada since 01 December 2019. A special ‘Plogging Drive’ with the theme ‘Plastic se Raksha – Swachhta he Suraksha’ was conducted by all the Naval units at Visakhapatnam, Kolkata, Odisha and Tamilnadu on 07 December 2019. Thousands of Naval personnel, defence civilians, families and school children removed approximately 1500 Kg of plastic waste from naval/ surrounding areas, residential areas, seafronts, naval harbours and other water bodies. Walkathons were organised in the offices, residential areas, surrounding areas and sea beaches while picking up litter along with other activities like Street Plays, Swachhta March, Drawing competitions for children and workshops/ lectures for families. At Visakhapatnam INS Kalinga, INS Karna, Naval Coastal Battery (V) and CNAI conducted plogging activity at city beaches. INS Dega, INS Eksila, INS Circars, MO(V), WED(V), Eastern Fleet ships and Naval Dockyard (V) conducted the drive in respective office/ residential and surrounding areas. The main attraction of the activity was the sea surface and underwater cleanup drive by Naval Dockyard(V) and Command Diving Team(V) at Visakhapatnam harbour. At Tamil Nadu, Headquarters Tamil Nadu & Puducherry Naval Area conducted Plogging drive at beach alongwith painting competition for children on the theme. In addition, INS Parundu and INS Kattabomman in Tamil Nadu also organised mass plogging drives and workshops/ lectures. INS Netaji at Kolkata and INS Chilka at Odisha have conducted lectures, briefings followed by plogging drives at residential areas and nearby waterfronts.
