Coastal Security Awareness Campaign on 20th Anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas

As part of Kargil Vijay Diwas Celebrations, special Community Interaction Programme (CIP) was conducted at Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Malappuram districts on 25 and 26 July 2019. A telefilm was screened on Kargil Operation and participation of Indian Navy in Operation Vijay. Representatives from the District Administration, Department of Fisheries and Coastal Police participated in the CIP. An interactive session was organised for the fishermen highlighting their role in combating terrorism arising from the seas, coastal security, maritime law and their contribution as the ‘eyes and ears’ of the Coastal Security construct. Fishing community were also appraised about importance of Bio-metric cards and carrying of valid papers by fishing boats, including personnel being hired from outside the state, reporting methodology of suspicious activities including the use of toll-free numbers 1054 for Search and Rescue and 1093 for reporting Coastal Security matters.
