Brave Hearts Commemorates on 20th Anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas in Mumbai

A series of activities were held in Mumbai on 26 July 2019 to mark the 20th anniversary of the glorious victory in Kargil War, with an aim to honour the sacrifices made by gallant warriors of the Indian Armed Forces.

A Tri-Service Guard of Honour was presented as homage to the valiant martyrs. The Hon'ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra Shri Devendra Fadnavis, Vice Adm Ajit Kumar P Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Western Naval Command, Lt Gen SK Prashar, General Officer Commanding Maharashtra Gujarat & Goa Area and AVM Rajeev Hora Air Officer Commanding Maritime Air Operations, laid wreaths on behalf of the State and Armed Forces in a solemn Wreath Laying Ceremony held at Shaheed Smarak at Colaba on 26 July 2019.

At Naval Dockyard (Mumbai), IN Ships Chennai and Mumbai were opened for visit to School Children. The event drew a huge crowd with over 8000 students attending to view the most potent warfighting platforms of the Indian Navy upfront. The crew of the ships interacted with the enthusiastic school children and briefed them about the significance of Kargil War. The crew also provided the students with an in-depth tour of the ships and it's capabilities.

At Air Force Station Kanheri Hills near Mumbai, a victory run for children of Class-IX to XII was conducted on 26 July 2019 in which students from various schools in Thane area participated with zeal and zest. Children from various schools also visited the station and were briefed about the functioning on IAF in general and the role of IAF in Kargil War.

Later in the day, a keenly contested Exhibition Football Match was organised at Cooperage ground between the teams of the Armed Forces and Bollywood. The Hon'ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra was the Chief Guest for the event and emphasised that the whole nation and people of Maharashtra are proud of the Indian Armed Forces. The audience included around 5000 personnel from Army, Navy, NCC, Veterans, Civilians and families. During the event there were musical performances by the Army and Navy bands alongwith weapons display and 'Know Your Army' stalls to increase awareness amongst the civilian populace.
