Warships Welcome Visitors and School Children to Commemorate the 20th Anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas
As part of activities to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, a visit of school children to the Naval Base at Kochi was organised on 20 July 2019. A large number of students from various local schools visited Indian Naval Ships Jamuna and Investigator, as well as the Naval Air Station, INS Garuda.
On arrival, the students were taken on board Indian Naval Ships, Jamuna and Investigator in separate groups. Students were explained the basic role and equipment fitted on each ship and on completion, were taken around the Indian Naval Air Squadrons 550 & 336 at the Naval Air Station, INS Garuda where they were shown various naval aircraft at close quarters. At INS Garuda, the children also visited the ATC Tower where they were explained the importance of Air Traffic Control and its functioning.
Besides this IN Ships Sutlej and Sujata were kept open for the general public on 20 and 21 July 2019 from 0900 hrs to 1700 hrs at Mattancherry Wharf, berth Q2 of Cochin Port Trust. The visitors were welcomed on board and given a brief presentation on the Kargil War and the role that the Indian Navy played in the war. The visitors were also taken around the ship highlighting its role and equipment fit. The visitors also had interaction with the ship’s staff, who gave them an exposure on career in the Armed Forces and life on board an Indian Naval ship. The ships would also be open for visitors on 21 July 2019 also.
Kargil Vijay Diwas is commemorated to remember the Kargil war heroes, who contributed to the ultimate victory of the Indian Armed Forces over Pakistan.
