 Naval Base Kochi Gears up for 4th International Day of Yoga - 2018

The week commencing 17 Jun – 23 Jun 18 is being celebrated as the Yoga Week by the Southern Naval Command at Kochi.  Many commemorative activities are being conducted inside the naval base, Kochi as well as INS Dronacharya, Fort Kochi as a run up to the International  Day of Yoga 2018 on 21 Jun 18 for sustained good health and a stress free life.

On 21 June 18, A mass yoga camp would be conducted for all personnel, at naval base, Kochi to mark the International Day of Yoga More than 1000 personnel, including those from friendly foreign nations, would be participating in the event. The event would be inaugurated by Rear Admiral RJ Nadkarni, VSM, Chief of Staff, Southern Naval Command. The services of the renowned yoga instructor, Ms Nuthan Manohar from ‘Me Met Me’ institute have been sought for the event. The camp on the day is primarily intended to create awareness amongst the naval personnel and families about the age old science and practice of yoga to help them adopt it in their day today lives.

A quiz would also be conducted in the latter half of the day to generate interest about the benefits of integrating yoga, into daily life, to suit modern sociological needs and lifestyles.
 In order to have a focussed approach towards utilising the concepts of Yoga towards all round development of mind and body of all naval personnel, a workshop on health and wellbeing was conducted for all the serving naval personnel and their families from 18 - 21 Jun 18 by the naval hospital INHS Sanjivani, in collaboration with “Heartfulness Institute, Chennai,” inside the naval base as well as at INS Dronacharya, Fort Kochi, as part of on-going Yoga Week Celebration. The importance of wellbeing in our daily life and methods to connect our inner self through expansion of consciousness and rejuvenation therapies were demonstrated and practised.

The workshop was intended to particularly address the increasing levels of stress through simple and effective set of exercises for relaxation, regulating the mind, building inner strength and also create a lasting sense of fulfilment and overall wellbeing through Yoga. It has been the conscious effort of the Navy and Southern Naval Command in particular (being the training Command) to try and ensure that the uniformed personnel and their families are mentally insulated from the overall high levels of mind and body burn out in the society so as to enable the personnel to perform military tasks efficiently.

The yoga week commemorative activities of the Navy would conclude with an ‘Integrated Meditation Technique Programme’ on 22 Jun 18 for service personnel, in collaboration with Amrita Meditation Institute. Practical demonstration and practice sessions on wholesome meditation techniques would be conducted.
