School Children Visit Indian Naval Ships at Visakhapatnam

As part of Navy Week celebrations, warships of the Eastern Fleet namely INS Rajput, INS Kulish and INS Kamorta were open for visit by children at Visakhapatnam on 26 & 27 November 2017. The event had an overwhelming response with over 4,000 students from 80 schools including 280 special children of Visakhapatnam visiting the ships. The students were taken on a guided tour of the ships and briefed about the diverse weapons and equipment fitted onboard.  A Career Counselling Cell was also setup where the students were explained on various entry schemes to join Indian Navy.

The visitors were explained about various naval evolutions and operations by means of photo boards and projection systems/PPTs. The visitors had opportunity to interact with Men in White and experienced life in the Navy from close quarters with considerable excitement. The event witnessed active participation and enthusiastic response from special children where they showcased their special talent with a spectacular display of song, music and in painting activity.

INS Rajput, a guided missile destroyer, is loaded with state of the art sensors and weapons, designed for multi-dimensional combat operations. INS Kamorta is the first stealth Anti-submarine Warfare Corvette indigenously designed by India Navy’s in-house organisation, Directorate of Naval Design and built by M/s Garden Reach Shipyard (GRSE), Kolkata. Its weapons and sensors include torpedoes, ASW rockets, Medium Range gun and Close-in Weapon System guns. INS Kulish is a Kora-class corvettes designed under Project 25A and is armed with Surface to Surface missile, Medium Range gun and Close-in Weapon Systems guns.
