School Children Visit at Naval Base Kochi
School Children Visit at Naval Base Kochi
As a run up to the Navy week – 2017 activities, visit of about 1500 students, along with their teachers, from 15 schools, to the naval base, Kochi was organised by INS Venduruthy on 23 Nov 17. The school children arrived in batches as per promulgated timeslots and were given a conducted tour of Indian Naval ships Tir and Sujata, where they witnessed a number of naval activities and evolutions. The children were especially enthralled with the demonstration given to them of the complete dis-assembly, followed by re-assembly, of small arms weapons onboard these ships.
An exhibition of different kinds of naval equipment was also held inside the base for the students, to instill in them a sense of pride in their Navy and also acquaint them about various naval activities. The exhibition, which was coordinated by Naval Institute of Aviation Technology, Seamanship and Diving Schools of Southern Naval Command (SNC), showcased dummy bombs, rocket launchers, equipment for safety at sea, diving equipment, models of ships, robots and seamanship procedures.
However, the high point of the visit was a breathtaking display of ‘continuity drill’ by the naval warriors of INS Dronacharya wherein, the squad executed a series of precise drill movements in unison, without a single word of command being given. All children and staff were provided refreshments on completion of the visit.
