WNC Mumbai Functions and Role

The Western Naval Command has its Headquarters in Mumbai and is both commanded and administered by the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command.

Functions and Role

The specific roles of the Western Naval Command are: -

  • Dissuasion and deterrence from a position of strength.
  • Protection of coastal assets and island territories.
  • Safeguarding the Western Seaboard against low intensity maritime threats.
  • Protection of Indian maritime trade in International Shipping lanes.
  • Protection of offshore assets.
  • Support to research in Marine Sciences in the IOR and Antarctica
  • Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster relief.
