Conditions of Eligibility

Awarded to personnel for services rendered outside India and for such periods as may be recognized by the Government for the purposes of this award and which has not been considered for any other Indian Medal.

A person who dies on service or is evacuated as a result of wound or other disabilities attributable to service or who is awarded gallantry decoration qualifying period in qualifying country, will be eligible for medal irrespective of minimum service.

In special cases the period of eligibility may be relaxed by Government.

An individual qualifying for the medal for the first time shall be awarded the medal, together with a clasp on which shall be inscribed the place where the service was rendered. On all subsequent occasions when the award is made only a clasp indicating the pace where the service was rendered. Awards may be made posthumously.

Eligible Categories

Commissioned Officers, Junior Commissioned Officers, Other Ranks and Non-Combatants (enrolled) of the regular Army, embodied Auxiliary and Reserve Forces or any other lawfully constituted Armed Forces.

Nursing Officers and other members of Nursing Services in the Armed forces.

The person with regular staff of diplomatic mission do not fall within purview of the medal.

Design of the Medal and Riband

Medal Circular in shape, made of cupro-nickel, 35 mm in diameter fitted to a plain horizontal bar with standard fitting. It shall have embossed on the obverse the State Emblem and the inscription below it along the rim. On its reverse it shall have a warship of ancient times.

Riband 32 mm in width and shall, be cobalt blue colour with 5 vertical stripes of white dividing it into six equal parts.
