Surgeon Vice Admiral Anup Banerji, SM, PHS
Surgeon Vice Admiral Anup Banerji, SM graduated from Armed Forces Medical College, Pune and was commissioned in Armed Forces Medical Services in 1981. He is a Post Graduate in Medicine from AFMC Pune in 1989 and did his DM in Cardiology from MH (CTC) Pune in 1997 and since then has been an outstanding cardiologist of great repute.
During his 36 years of service, he has held various important administrative, staff and instructional appointments like Deputy Comdt, Command Hospital (NC) in Cl Ops and at AH (R&R) and Conslt (Med & Cardio) in CH (EC) Kolkata. The Admiral has held the prestigious appointments of HOD (Medicine & Cardiology) at MH (CTC) Pune and AH (R&R) Delhi. He has also performed the duties of Dean Academics at AH (R&R) and is an examiner in Medicine & Cardiology at MUHS and WBUHS. He has excelled in all his assignments as a true reformist.
The Flag Officer has assumed the appointment of DGMS (Navy) on 12 Dec 18 and prior to this he held the prestigious appointments of Comdt, AMC Centre & College, Lucknow and MG (Med), MG&G Area, Mumbai.
The Flag Officer was conferred with the prestigious Sena Medal in 1986 for his sterling qualities of industriousness towards achieving set targets and being the only medical member in the Indian Army Mt Everest Expedition in 1985. The Flag Officer was also awarded COAS Commendation thrice in the year 2001, 2003 & 2013 and GOC-in-C (SC) Commendation in 2007 for his outstanding & meritorious service and ability to perform with distinction in diverse fields and is presently appointed as President's Honorary Surgeon (PHS) w.e.f. 27 January 2019.
Admiral Banerji is ably supported by his wife Dr (Mrs) Raka Banerji, Professor in Economics and the couple is blessed with two sons namely Anirudh who is a Post Graduate in Hospital Administration and Arjun, an IT Professional.
