Navy Week – Community Outreach Activities, Andaman & Nicobar Command

As a part of Navy Week 2019, the naval component of Andaman & Nicobar Command organised a variety of community outreach activities to increase awareness about the Indian Navy.

Indian Naval Ships were Open for Visitors at Kamorta, Diglipur and Campbell Bay on 17, 24 and 28 November 2019 respectively. A large number of local residents, school children, civil authorities and government officials visited the ships at all these venues. The visitors were provided with a glimpse of roles and capabilities of the ships. Beside this, aspirants and school children were also given an insight about the procedures and eligibility criteria for joining the Indian Navy.   

Concurrently, Multispecialty Medical Health Camps at Kamorta, Diglipur and Campbell Bay were organised by Indian Naval Hospital Ship Dhanvantari. The Naval Bases INS Baaz, Kohassa and Kardip in conjunction with local Community Health Centres at each of these locations provided support for the medical team of five specialists comprising of Dental Surgeon, Psychiatrist, Medical Specialist, Ophthalmologist and Paediatrician. 792 patients of different age groups from different parts of Andaman & Nicobar Islands benefitted immensely from these medical camps.

A learning visit was organised for school children to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Dweep by the Naval Component (Andaman & Nicobar Command) on 24 November 2019. A total of 103 students, 79 Sea Cadet Corps and seven teachers attended from Navy Children School, Kendriya Vidyalaya No.2, Ummat Public School (Middle Point), Austinabad School and Sea Cadet Corps. The visit included sightseeing along with Mrs Anuradha, a veteran guide, who narrated them historical events associated with the island. Additionally, a visit onboard naval ships was also organised to inspire and motivate the young minds. As many as 184 students visited onboard Indian Naval Ship Saryu on 26 and 27 November 2019. Both these opportunities were gainfully utilised by students to enhance their knowledge, while simultaneously having a fun time.  

In order to provide basic necessities, amenities and to encourage a better future for under privileged children, the Indian Navy at Port Blair visited two orphanages on 29th November 2019. A Donation Camp for orphanages was jointly coordinated by Naval Wives welfare Association (A&N Region) and Indian Naval Ship Battimalv. The Naval Community contributed generously with rations, stores, stationary, toys, cash, services for painting and carpentry and other articles of utility gifted to Seva Niketan and Pranav Kanya Mission as a token of goodwill. Also, the children were acquainted on the prospects of joining the Indian Navy and eligibility criteria for entry through various schemes. The children also presented a cultural programme on the occasion.
