Children’s Day Commemorated at Naval Base, Kochi

As a part of Navy Week 2019 activities, a visit to naval base for more than a thousand students from various schools, along with their teachers was organised by Southern Naval Command on 14 November 2019. During the visit, the students visited Indian Naval Ships Sunayna, Shardul, Nireekshak and Jamuna. The children also visited the Naval Air Station, INS Garuda.

The students were later conducted around an exhibition displaying various naval equipment. The exhibits included dummy bombs, rocket launchers, safety equipment, diving equipment, models of ships and also models depicting seamanship procedures. A ‘Continuity Drill’ by a platoon from INS Dronacharya for the children, in which a series of precise drill movements were executed in synchronisation, without a single word of command being given, was the highpoint of the visit.

The students, during their visit onboard ships, were explained about the role of the Indian Navy in defending the nation's maritime interests as well as various equipment, weapons and sensors fitted onboard each ship while the visit to the INS Garuda provided them with a unique opportunity to get a first-hand glimpse of various fixed wing aircraft and helicopters of the Indian Navy as well as its flying operations demonstration.
