Coastal Security Awareness Campaign Conducted at Thrissur
As part of the monthly initiative to enhance security consciousness amongst fishermen of Kerala, a Coastal Security Awareness Campaign was conducted at Thrissur District on 20 and 21 June 2019. The campaign was conducted at Fish Landing Centre (Munakkakadavu), Chettuva Harbour, Fisheries Cooperative Society (Kaippamangalam) and Azhikode Hatchery. Representatives from District Administration Thrissur, Department of Fisheries and Coastal Police participated in the Campaign. During the campaign issues related to importance of Bio-metric cards, carrying valid papers by fishing boats including personnel being hired from outside the state, color coding scheme for fishing boats and reporting methodology of suspicious activities were highlighted. The role of fishermen and local populace as Eyes and Ears of security agencies in reporting suspicious activities was emphasised. In addition, communication discipline on MMB channels, use of Indian Coast Guard toll free number 1054 for Search and Rescue and Coastal Police toll free number 1093 for reporting Coastal Security matters was also discussed.
