World Environment Day 2019 Celebrated at Southern Naval Command

World Environment day was observed on 05 June 2019 by all units of Southern Naval Command with participation of service and civilian personnel and their families. Majority of the activities were in consonance with this year's theme; ‘Reduction of Air Pollution’. At Kochi, Venduruthy, Dronacharya, Garuda and other units organised lectures on harmful effects of air pollution and its prevention. Suggestions were given to reduce air pollution including having ‘no vehicle days’, encouraging use of bicycles, reducing dependence on machinery using fossil fuels, banning garbage and foliage burning, eco-friendly disposal of solid waste, ban on single use plastic items and regular PUC checks of public and private vehicles. Similar events were conducted at SNC units located at Mumbai, Jamnagar, Lonavla, Chilka, Goa, Ezhimala and Coimbatore. In addition, various activities and events, pertaining to environmental protection were also conducted, which include sapling plantation, beach cleanup drives, shramdaan, plastic waste removal, lectures, poster and painting competitions.
