World Environment Day Celebrated at Indian Naval Academy

On the occasion of World Environmental Day, an overwhelming participation from Naval community, Civilian personnel and Children was on display at Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala. The entire community including children and young students participated in the plantation drive, cleanship of Zamorin beach as part of “Swatch Bharat Abhiyaan” and nature walk organized by INS Zamorin. Under the ‘Plant for the Planet Campaign’ 35,000 plants / sapling of numerous categories, like fruit bearing, indigenous trees, medicinal plants, herbal plants and decorative plants were planted. The saplings were sourced from The Social Forestry Department, Government of Kerala.

The tree plantation drive was inaugurated by Vice Admiral SV Bhokare, AVSM, YSM, NM Commandant, INA by planting a sapling. In his inaugural address he encouraged all personnel to adapt constructive methods to safeguard and protect endangered species at Ezhimala Station in line with this year’s World Environment Day theme “Connecting People to Nature”. The station has overwhelmingly planted more trees than the numbers affected by the project.

Rear Admiral MD Suresh, NM, Deputy Commandant, INA, Rear Admiral Amit Vikram, Principal, INA, Commodore Kamlesh Kumar, Station Commander, Ezhimala, all Senior Naval Officers and their families were also present on the occasion.
