Passing Out Ceremony for Advanced Oceanography Course - SNOM

Passing out ceremony for the fifth ‘Advanced Oceanography Course’ was conducted by the School of Naval Oceanology and Meteorology, Kochi on 29 March 2019. The Advanced Oceanography course, which is conducted once every two years, accords super specialisation in Oceanography to Meteorology to officers of the Indian Navy. Commodore (Naval Oceanography and Meteorology) was the chief guest for the event. The course comprising five officers underwent 24 weeks of training at SNOM in theoretical and practical aspects of oceanography. They were exposed to modern techniques and latest developments in the field of oceanography through training visits and attachments to Indian Institute of Technology (Delhi and Chennai), Indian Institute of Science (Bengaluru), Space Application Centre (Ahmedabad), National Remote Sensing Centre (Hyderabad), Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (Hyderabad), various organisations located at Goa viz. National Institute of Oceanography, National Institute of Hydrography, National Centre for Antarctic and Ocean Research, Underwater Ranges, National Institute of Ocean Technology (Chennai) and Doppler Weather Radar (Chennai). In addition, hands-on training was imparted on ocean models, data visualisation packages and instrumentation for deep-ocean and coastal areas.
