Valsura Half Marathon – 2018

As part of Navy Week 2018 activities, INS Valsura conducted the Valsura Half Marathon (21 kms), Josh Run (10 kms) and Walkathon (5 kms) on 09 December 2018 at Jamnagar. Over 3,000 citizens of Jamnagar, from all age groups and professions, participated in the event. In addition to school children, a large contingent of NCC Cadets, personnel from Indian Army and Indian Air Force, Sashastra Seema Bal, Jamnagar Municipal Corporation, Gujarat Police, and various industry houses participated in all three categories of races. Many children also carried placards to increase awareness about various social issues such as illiteracy, pollution and child labour. Sainik School Balachadi was represented by a strong contingent of 100 cadets. It was also heartening to see specially abled children participate in the walkathon. Sepoy Nitesh Jagnade with a timing of 1 hour 7 minutes took the first prize in the half marathon under the Services category, while Mr Mahisha Saurav with a timing of 1 hour 30 minutes and Mr Rakesh Rawat with a timing of 1 hour 37 minutes were the winners and runners up respectively in the civilian category. The 10 kms Josh Run also witnessed intense competition, in which SA Tehsildar, EAP/APP with a timing of 35 minutes 40 seconds won in the Services category, while Mr Krishna Gopal with a timing of 37 minutes 1 second and Mr Prince Yadav with a timing of 38 minutes and 40 seconds were the winners and runners up respectively of the Josh Run in the civilian category. The event had a festive atmosphere with conduct of a Zumba session and cultural program by school children.
