Indian Navy Conducts Basic Life Support and First Aid Workshop for Cadets of 7 NCC Unit
A workshop on First Aid and Basic Life Support for NCC Cadets of 7 NCC Unit Kerala was conducted at naval base kochi on 06 October2018.. The workshop was conducted under the guidance of Surgeon Rear Admiral G Vishwanath, the Command Medical Officer (CMO) of Southern Naval Command (SNC) who introduced the course to the NCC Cadets. Lectures and practical demonstrations were conducted by Surgeon Captain Anil Pillai C, Additional CMO of SNC, Surgeon Commander Hariom Gupta Senior Staff Officer (Health), SNC and medical staff from the naval hospital INHS Sanjivani. Each such workshop trains a maximum of 30 NCC Cadets and the one conducted on 06 October 2018 was the fifth such workshop.
The NCC Cadets were trained in First Aid, CPR (including practice on mannequin), bandaging and splinting. They also carried out practical drills in casualty evacuation by one man, two men and by using various stretchers. The cadets were even taught how to use common use material available at home to make a stretcher in an emergency to evacuate a casualty. The skills taught are not only important for saving life and limb of their colleagues in case of an emergency, but will also be handy in providing first aid to accident victims in public places.
SNC has been conducting workshops for various personnel, including ladies and children to equip them with basic practical knowledge of lifesaving and casualty evacuation techniques.
