INS Tarkash and Kolkata Visit Mombasa

Indian Naval Ships Tarkash and Kolkata, visited the port of Mombasa, Kenya from 15 to 18 September 2018. Vice Admiral Girish Luthra, FOC-in-C West also visited the country in conjunction with the visit of the ships. The C-in-C called on Brigadier Charles Kahiriri, Deputy Commander of the Kenya Navy at Kenya Navy Headquarters, Mtwonge Naval Base and was presented with a 50-man Guard of Honour. He also called on Deputy Governor, Mombasa County, H E Dr William Kingi and discussed issues of mutual interest and cooperation in various fields. The ships' Commanding Officers paid homage at the Commonwealth War Graves in Mombasa.

The Indian ships were open to visitors, and hosted over 600 visitors on 16 and 17 September 2018. The ship's also utilised the opportunity to undertake professional interactions with the Kenyan Navy, through onboard Damage Control and Fire Fighting Drills and Power Generation and Distribution System familiarisation. The ships also conducted a Medical Camp at a local charitable institution and participated in sports fixtures with Kenyan Navy personnel.

The ships also held a reception hosted by FOC-in-C West and H E Mrs Suchitra Durai, High Commissioner of India, Nairobi, which was attended by senior military and civil officials stationed at Mombasa.
