Vice Admiral AK Saxena, PVSM, AVSM, VSM
Vice Admiral AK Saxena, PVSM AVSM VSM assumed charge as the Controller of Warship Production & Acquisition on 31 October 2018. He joined the Electrical Branch of the Indian Navy under University Entry Scheme on 17 Aug 1981 after completing his Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Osmania University, Hyderabad. During his illustrious career in the Indian Navy, the Admiral has served onboard IN ships Himgiri, Udaygiri, Gomati & Delhi in various capacities. He has served in the Naval Dockyards at Vizag and Mumbai and at Naval Headquarters, New Delhi, wherein he has handled Electrical issues in the Materiel branch.
As a Flag Officer, the Admiral has served as the Additional DGQA(N), as the Admiral Superintendent Dockyard of Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam, CSO (Tech)/ WNC and as the Director General Naval Projects at Mumbai prior to taking over the present appointment. The Admiral has undergone Naval Higher Command Course and the prestigious National Defence College Course for Senior Ranking Military Officers and Bureaucrats at New Delhi.
The Admiral has been awarded commendation by the Chief of the Naval Staff on two occasions and is a recipient of Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal & Vishisht Seva Medal for his distinguished service.
As Controller of Warship Production & Acquisition, the Flag Officer is in charge of all aspects related to construction and acquisition of warships and submarines for the Indian Navy, both from Indian as well as foreign shipyard.
The Admiral is an avid golfer. He is married to Mrs Alpana Saxena and together they have two sons (Ankur and Anuj).
