Inter Divisional Jal Taran Competition held at INS Chilka

The Inter Divisional Jal Taran relay and open swimming competition for trainees of batch 01/2018 was conducted at INS Chilka on 15 June 2018. All ten Divisions participated in the competition, fielding 100 trainees each. The competition was conducted as a relay in which each participant swam a distance of 50 metres. An open swimming competition of 50 metres free style for both trainees and ship’s company, in different age categories, was also held and around 1,200 personnel enthusiastically participated in the event. The aim of conducting Jal Taran competition is to hone swimming skills, and imbibe spirit of sportsmanship, team spirit and competitiveness among young trainees. Azad Division won the Inter Divisional Jal Taran trophy for the batch 01/2018 with Ashok division being adjudged runners up. In the individual category, Prasad N, MR from Azad division and Deepak Kumar, NVK (GD) from Arjun division stood first and second respectively in the 50 metres freestyle race. Training Captain INS Chilka awarded trophies to the winners and runners-up on completion of the event.
