Indian Navy cover Mt Kalsubai in Tricolour Independence Day - 2015

A 30 member team of mountaineering enthusiasts from the Navy covered Mount Kalsubai, highest peak of Maharashtra, with a large, 60 feet by 40 feet, National Flag to mark the 69th Independence Day of our country. As the group reached the mountain top many people present also joined in creating an electrifying and patriotic atmosphere on top of Mount Kalsubai. The flag covered the mountain top, however due to weather condition aerial photography could not be undertaken.

The Flag off of the Flag display expedition

In keeping with the adage that the Navy is a service for the physically fit and mentally tough, 8 officers (including one woman officer) and 22 sailors participated in the expedition. The expedition was flagged off by Rear Admiral MS Pawar, Flag Officer Maharashtra And Gujarat from Command Gymnasium, Navy Nagar, Colaba, Mumbai around 11:00 PM on 14 Aug 15.

The team covered approximately 170 Km from Mumbai by road to Indira Village. The team then climbed along an approximately 16 km trek up the Kalsubai mountain peak along a new route which starts at Indira village as against the regular and frequented trail starting from the village Bari.

As the group reached the mountain top many people present also joined in creating an electrifying and patriotic atmosphere on top of Mount Kalsubai

Some members of the team have just completed the challenging naval expedition to Mt Saifee, at a height of 6176 m, and trek to Kailash Mansarovar.
