Assistance to Merchant Vessel (MV) MSC Daniela

The High Commissioner of India, Colombo requested for Indian Navy’s assistance to MV MSC Daniela (a Panama flagged container vessel) that had reported a fire onboard on 04 April 2017, 24 nm (approximately 45kms) West of Colombo. IN ships Darshak and Gharial along with Indian Coast Guard ship Shoor were deployed to undertake fire fighting operations. Whilst Indian Coast Guard (ICG) ship Shoor undertook extensive fire fighting operations, Darshak’s helicopter was utilised for locating the seat of fire and directing fire fighting efforts. The fire was brought under control on 06 Apr 17 and all crew were reported to be safe. This was also an excellent example of IN – ICG cooperation in assistance at sea.
