One of the biggest challenges in indigenous submarine building programs is development of systems and equipments meeting demanding performance criteria for underwater operations, since very few Commercially off The Shelf (COTS) technology/ products can be inducted for submarine applications.
Most vendors in the country have little or no exposure on development of systems for submarine applications and therefore considerable effort is needed for indigenization. This requirement is met by this organization by preparing Statement of Technical Requirements (SOTRs) and providing technical support during development. In many cases in-depth design analyses and calculations are also undertaken to validate the equipment / system design of the vendors
