World Environment Day

With an objective to highlight the significance of multiple environmental issues and to encourage positive contribution, the World Environment Day was observed on 05 Jun 21 by INS Valsura under the United Nations promulgated theme ‘Ecosystem Restoration’. The unit organised a number of activities to spread awareness on ‘Ecosystem Restoration’ in the present age. A mass plantation drive was conducted wherein a total of 450 saplings of 10 local species were planted all across the establishment. In addition, 300 saplings of various varieties of trees were also distributed to the residents so as to enhance the green cover at the accommodation areas. Concerted efforts were made by all the residents to weed out plastic and non-biodegradable wastes from their premises during mass cleanship drives conducted at various places. A painting-cum-slogan writing competition was also organised by the unit following all COVID-19 protocols, wherein participants displayed their creative artistic skills to spread awareness of various environmental issues. In order to educate young minds, webinars were organised by Kendriya Vidyalaya and Naval Kindergarten schools of the unit. Substantiating these efforts, ladies of NWWA (Valsura) also organised a virtual ‘Upcycled Planter Competition’ for children.
