INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY 2021

Various activities to commemorate the seventh International Day of Yoga (IDY) were conducted by INS Valsura, Jamnagar under the theme ‘Be with Yoga, Be at Home’. Around 2000 Valsurians, including Service personnel, trainees, Defence civilians, DSC personnel and families enthusiastically participated in a myriad of activities organised by the unit. The IDY events commenced on 19 Apr 21 with an online address by Dr Radhakrishnan Pillai, the renowned author of the bestseller ‘Corporate Chanakya’ and other Chanakya series. Post completion of the lecture, prize winners of the virtual slogan competition conducted for families and online quiz competition conducted for trainees were felicitated. Both the competitions were conducted with the objective to spread knowledge and awareness about various Yogic asanas following COVID-19 protocols. An hour long Yoga session through the virtual medium was conducted by a Yoga qualified Physical Training Instructor of the unit. The trainees and married personnel of the establishment did the asanas in their in-living blocks and married accommodation respectively. In addition, NWWA (Valsura) also conducted ‘Virtual Fun Yoga’ for children in the age group of 5 to 15 years. Mrs Arati Khurana, a Yoga teacher and a Sri Sri Sanskar Kendra teacher of Art of Living foundation conducted the session in which various asanas were demonstrated for the benefit of children. The importance of children picking up Yoga early in life was also highlighted to all parents. Students of Kendriya Vidyalaya and Naval Kindergarten of the unit also participated in the ‘Virtual Fun Yoga’. The establishment also coordinated an online Yoga competition wherein families were encouraged to perform Yoga at home and the best performers were awarded based on the video recordings forwarded by them.
