As part of the PM's vision to make yoga a way of life and as a curtain raiser to IDY 2016, the Western Naval Command of the Indian Navy undertook a 21 day capsule to popularise yoga amongst the Naval community and to spread the message of healthy living. 19 June 2016 marked a new chapter in this journey when more than 2000 personnel attended Mass Yoga session in lush green surroundings of Kohli Stadium in South Colaba.

This event held over two hours involved, personnel striking various yoga poses/ asana's, with special emphasis on breathing exercises. Towards this, the navy collaborated with various organisations wherein trained instructors undertook special sessions for naval personnel, families and children at various locations in Navy Nagar and Naval Dockyard and various locations in Mumbai including the aircraft carrier INS Viraat and ships of the Western Fleet.

Over 25 naval personnel have been trained as yoga instructors to conduct yoga sessions for naval personnel on a regular basis. These sessions would also spread awareness and increase participation of the naval community during International Day of Yoga activities scheduled on Tuesday, 21 June 2016.
