Maiden ENC Triathlon conducted in Visakhapatnam

The first ever Triathlon in the City of Destiny was conducted by the Eastern Naval Command on 09th October 2016.  Over 200 naval personnel including ladies and children participated enthusiastically. The event coordinated by Command Sports Office, HQENC was conducted in three categories. Vice Admiral HCS Bisht, AVSM, ADC, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command was the Chief Guest for the closing ceremony and gave away for prizes to the winners.

Maiden ENC Triathlon conducted in Visakhapatnam  

Lt Vimal Tomar of Sahyadri is the winner of the maiden ENC Triathlon conducted as per Olympic standards which included 1.5 km swim followed by 40 km cycling and 20 km run non-stop. The ‘Sprint Distance’ for the ladies and children included a 700 mtrs swim, followed by 20 km cycling and a 10 km run and was won by RP Choudhary, SEA-I CD of Karna. Vipin Dahiya S/o VS Dahiya, CPO CD, CCDT(V) was the winner of the ‘Rookie Distance’ category which comprised of 300 mtrs swim followed by 10 km cycling and 5 km run.

Triathlon was started in the early 1970s in California, USA, as an alternative workout to the rigours of track training is fast gaining popularity in the field of endurance sport in the country.  After the successful completion of the first ever ENC Triathlon, there has been a demand to conduct an Open Vizag Navy Triathlon in the City of Destiny, Visakhapatnam in the lines of Vizag Navy Marathon, the third edition scheduled to be conducted at RK Beach on 06 November  this year. With its pristine beaches, scenic cycling and running routes, Vizag is certainly an ideal location for a great Triathlon.
