Golden Jubilee Seminar and Technical Exhibition of DGNP(V) concludes

A seminar with the central theme “Modern Trends in Marine Ship Building Infrastructure: Challenges and Opportunities” was organised by Director General Naval Projects (DGNP), Visakhapatnam  as part of its Golden Jubilee Celebrations at Samudrika Auditorium. The seminar and a technical exhibition were inaugurated by Vice Admiral HCS Bisht, AVSM, the Flag Officer Commanding in Chief of Eastern Naval Command, on 12 May 2016. The seminar was attended by all the stake holders representing the Naval Headquarters, the Tri–services Command at Port Blair, Dockyards, eminent speakers and representatives from the Industry and Academic Institutions like the Indian Institute of Technology and Andhra University.

Addressing the participants of the seminar, Vice Admiral HCS Bisht appreciated the role of Director General Naval Projects, Visakhapatnam headed by Vice Admiral DM Deshpande, AVSM, VSM and his entire team in maintaining the highest quality standards for creation and up-gradation of quality marine infrastructure. He further highlighted the growing role of DGNP which includes important green field projects and applauded its high standard of efficiency and effectiveness for last 50 years.

Distinguished speakers from across the country shared their perspective during the seminar for effective confluence on thoughts and ideas for marine assets. The seminar saw lively discussions and yielded some takeaways towards partnerships between Industry, Academia and the Navy which could confront the future challenges for creation of marine assets. Besides delegates from within the country, the seminar also saw participation of foreign delegates from Netherlands, Japan, USA and UK, who not only took active part but were themselves educated on the progress being made in marine Industry. The technical exhibition showcased the capability of industrial houses and they demonstrated their expertise in overcoming complexities associated with the execution of marine projects.

Established in June 1967, DGNP has built the Naval Dockyard at Visakhapatnam and undertaken a large number of marine infrastructure works and other technical works of various shore establishments of the Indian Navy on Eastern seaboard. Presently the organisation is handling major state of art projects such as jetties, marine infrastructure up-gradations, ship lifts, bridges and also enhancing the existing support facilities at the various Bases and Industrial establishments.
