The fifth Convocation Ceremony for the award of  MTech (Aeronautics) and BSc (Aeronautics) degrees in Mechanical, Electrical  and Avionics by CUSAT for personnel from Naval Air Arm  and Indian Coast Guard was held at Naval Institute of Aeronautical Technology (NIAT), Naval base, Kochi on 12 Apr 16. A total of 75 personnel received their degrees. The Chief Guest for the ceremony was Vice Admiral Girish Luthra, AVSM, VSM Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval command while Dr J Letha, Vice Chancellor Cochin University of Science and Technology graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour. Commodore Sanjeev Dureja, the Director of the institute delivered the Welcome address. The Ceremony was also attended by Dr K Paulose Jacob, Pro Vice Chancellor and other senior functionaries of CUSAT.

While congratulating the awardees, Vice Admiral Girish Luthra lauded the efforts of NIAT for ensuring continued high standards of excellence in aviation professional training. He also commended the excellent jointmanship displayed by CUSAT and Indian Navy in executing an MOU in 2002 whereby the training provided by NIAT is being recognised for award of MTech and BSc as they greatly assist in inculcating traditions of academic excellence amongst the personnel of the Indian Navy. Dr J Letha, in her address opined that the academic partnership between the two should continue to flourish and grow stronger in times to come.

Naval Institute of Aeronautical Technology is the largest Aeronautical Training Establishment in the country and is recognized as “Centre for Aeronautical Science and Technology” by Cochin University of Science and Technology.
