World Ocean Day 2024, Beach Cleanup and Mangrove Plantation Drives Were Undertaken by ENC on 08 June 2024

As part of various initiatives and activities planned by the Indian navy to commemorate World Ocean Day 2024, Beach Cleanup and Mangrove Plantation drives were undertaken by ENC on 08 June 2024 in all coastal states on the East seaboard. The events witnessed very large participation of Naval, DSC and Defence Civilian personnel along with their family members. The objective of the beach cleanup drive was to raise awareness about its crucial role in sustaining life on Earth. Coastal cleanups help to protect marine life from harmful pollution, improve health of ocean ecosystems and raise public awareness. In addition, NOIC Odisha in coordination with Mangrove Forest Division, Rajnagar undertook Mangrove Afforestation Drive at Kanika Range. Total of 50 native mangrove saplings (Scientific name - Avicenna Marina True Mangrove ) were planted at Kanika Range. 80 personnel participated in the PlantationDrive including NOIC staff, Forest Division Reps, NCC unit Paradip and local populous. The Afforestation Drive/ Planation Drive covered around 3 Acres of area.
