World Environment Day 2019 Celebrated at Western Naval Command

Western Naval Command commemorated World Environment Day on 05 June 2019 with this year's theme 'Air Pollution'. Areas and units under WNC observed the occasion with a host of activities that promoted the necessity of environmental conservation. Ships of the Western Fleet undertook tree plantation drives and organised lectures on environmental conservation. Ships also undertook cleanliness drives on jetties and water front inside the Naval Dockyard to promote the need for a clean working environment. Units under Maharashtra Naval Area organised a mass tree plantation drive with INS Tunir planting over 2,000 saplings in Karanja Naval Station. FMU, RAQAS and NRS organised essay and painting competitions for their staff on the occasion. In Goa Naval Area, all serving personnel, families and civilian staff contributed in activities like painting competition for women and children themed 'Clean and Green Environment', lectures on protecting environment and mass plantation drive within naval premises and NCS school. Around 250 saplings were planted by the families on 05 June 2019 and another 750 saplings will be planted during the week. Karwar Naval Area conducted a beach and waterfront cleanup drive inside Karwar Naval Base in addition to tree plantation drives, pollution checks, lectures and a quiz competition.
