Visit of Chief of Naval Staff to Kochi

Admiral Karambir Singh, PVSM, AVSM, ADC, the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) is visiting Southern Naval Command, Kochi from 14 - 18 Sep 20. He arrived at naval air station INS Garuda by Indian Air Force aircraft at 09.30 pm on 14 Sep 20 and was received by Vice Admiral AK Chawla, PVSM, AVSM, NM, VSM, ADC, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief (FOC-in-C), Southern Naval Command (SNC).

The Admiral during his visit would be reviewing the progress of training, operational, infrastructural and indigenisation developments that had taken place since his last visit to Kochi in July 2019. The Southern Naval Command trains all officers and sailors of the Indian Navy, Indian Coast Guard and personnel from friendly foreign countries.

The CNS will also review the environmental initiatives undertaken by the SNC, viz. Rejuvenation of Venduruthy channel with the active involvement of service personnel, local populace and the district administration. He will also be briefed on the Plastic Waste Handling Facility, inaugurated at the Naval Base Kochi on 29 Aug 20, completed due to the collective efforts of the district administration, CSL and SILK, aimed at effective and scientific handling of plastic waste in the community.

CNS would also be visiting Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) to review the progress of the indigenous Aircraft carrier, IAC-1 which is at the advance stage of construction. This is the largest and most prestigious ship building project of Indian Navy.
