Visit of Admiral Hiroshi Yamamura Chief of Staff JMSDF to Headquarters Western Naval Command, Mumbai
Admiral Hiroshi Yamamura, Chief of Staff, Japan Maritime Self Defence Force (JMSDF) accompanied by spouse and a five member delegation, visited Headquarters Western Naval Command, Mumbai on 12 February 20. During the visit, Admiral Yamamura interacted with Vice Admiral Ajit Kumar P, PVSM, VSM, ADC, the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command. Subsequently, the Admiral visited ‘INS Trikand’, a guided missile Frigate of the Western Fleet, submarine ‘INS Sindhukesari’ and Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd.
Mrs Cheiko Yamamura, wife of Admiral Yamamura Hiroshi visited Sankalp, a naval school for differently abled children administered by Navy Wives Welfare Association, Mumbai and interacted with the students. She was informed about various vocational training activities being imparted to these children. She was impressed with the good work being done by Sankalp staff and appreciative of the efforts put in caring for the special children.
Japan and India have come a long way in institutionalizing the defence relationship between the two countries. The JMSDF and Indian Navy over the years have built up high levels of interoperability through various types of interactions.The JMSDF and Indian Navy share converging views on maritime areas of concern in international waters, Anti-Piracy operations, Humanitarian Assistance, Disaster Relief and information sharing. The current visit by Admiral Yamamura would further strengthen the existing bonds between the two navies.
