Tri-Services Ex- Servicemen Job Fair at Naval Base, Kochi
A Tri-services Ex-Servicemen (ESM) Job Fair was organised by the Southern Naval Command on 08 March 2018, under the aegis of the Director General Resettlement (DGR) of the Ministry of Defence (MoD) in co-ordination with Confederation of Indian Industries (CII). The Job Fair was inaugurated by Rear Admiral RJ Nadkarni, VSM, Chief of Staff in the presence of nearly 1500 Ex-Servicemen from Kerala and representatives from about 25 corporates. The Job Fair provided a common platform for the ESMs and the corporate world to interact and for the latter to interview prospective ESM candidates, which is mutually beneficial to both in selection and appointment of right candidates for the right jobs. The Job Fair also sought to bring in awareness of skills/ expertise available with ESM and job openings available with corporates.

Speaking on the occasion, the Admiral stated that the military ethos and values ingrained in ESMs during their service career makes them readily deployable as a disciplined and well trained asset. He also brought out that ESMs are highly skilled with a lot of experience in different disciplines and also have the requisite leadership traits to be absorbed in any managerial or semi-managerial positions, which the companies could adequately leverage as per their requirement.
Job Fair in progress
As per statistics of Rajya Sainik Board, as on 30 June 2017, Kerala state has more than 1.7 lakh ESMs (excluding widows) and such fairs are held by the MoD as part of its social responsibility to provide them a second career opportunity. The DGR is mandated by the Government to undertake four such Job Fairs in a year across various cities, with administrative support of one of the Service Headquarters. The last Job Fair at Kochi was conducted in November 2012.
All companies which participated in the Job Fair expressed their high satisfaction towards the smooth conduct of the event, as well as in it being an ideal vehicle for them to hire skilled, disciplined and reliable ESM.
