Symposium on Corrosion Management Inaugurated at Visakhapatnam

A Symposium on 'Corrosion Management' comprising of Seminar and an Exhibition was held at INS Vishwakarma on 06 December 2018. The two-day event was orgainsed in collaboration with Confederation of Indian Industry and Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers and inaugurated by Vice Admiral Karambir Singh, PVSM, AVSM, FOC-IN-C(East), Prof G Nageswara Rao, Vice Chancellor Andhra University, RVS Rudra Raju, Chairman-CII, AP and Dr SV Kamat, Distinguished Scientist from DRDO attended the seminar amongst other dignitaries.

The 12 technical papers presented by the speakers from Industry, DRDO, Academia, Warship designers, Ship builders, Maintainers and Operators were aimed at identifying and inducting new technologies, materials and systems to make our weapon platforms more robust and combat worthy at all times. Latest technologies and concepts pertaining to coatings, cathodic protection and asset management were deliberated by the participants during the technical sessions. The operators perspective towards corrosion mitigation due to mission based deployments and lean manning of warships was also dwelled upon. Later, a compendium of technical papers was also released by the Chief Guest.

An exhibition on hull systems has been organised as part of the Symposium. Several organisations associated with the subject such as DMRL, NMRL, Ship builders, Hull system OEMs and Coating industry have put up stalls offering important takeaways. The exhibition has on display virtual reality software, non-destructive test equipment, deck machinery, warship grade materials, new generation marine coatings and hull husbandry tools. Representatives from Naval Headquarters, Naval Dockyard, Fleet, Flotilla, Design Organisations, Coast Guard, Andhra University and representatives from Marine Industry visited the stalls. The exhibition is also open for visitors on 07 December 2018.
