Solo Cycling Campaign from Kashmir to Kanyakumari

A solo cycling campaign is being undertaken by Lieutenant Commander Manoj S Gupta of Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala from Kashmir to Kanyakumari from 02 June to 18 July 2018.The Kochi-Haripad leg of the expedition was flagged off by Rear Admiral RJ Nadkarni, VSM, Chief of Staff, Southern Naval Command on 14 July 2018. The officer will be transiting through Haripad and Kazhakoottam enroute to Kanyakumari.

Earlier, the officer was received by Capt PE Prasad, the Executive Officer of INS Venduruthy on his arrival to Kochi on 13 July 2018 . The campaign aimed at creating awareness about the “Armed Forces Flag Day”, is observed annually in India on 7 December since 1949. On this day, small flags representing the three Services are distributed, in return for donations, which are utilised for rehabilitation of battle casualties, welfare and resettlement of ex- servicemen and their families.

The cycling expedition, originated in the famous Khardung La pass in Ladakh, the highest motorable pass in the world, on 06 June 2018 and will terminate at Kanyakumari on 16 July 2018. Lt Cdr Manoj S Gupta has braved diverse terrain, climates and intense rains to arrive here at the Naval Base, Kochi on 13 July after a strenuous 3700 km journey. The campaign is all the more creditable as the officer is undertaking it solo without any accompanying support team.
