Search and Rescue (SAR) Operations – MV Emerald Star

IN P8I was deployed to Manila Phillipines from 15 – 20 Oct 17 to undertake SAR of the 10 missing Indian crew of MV Emerald Star (Hong Kong flagged vessel, with 26 Indian crew onboard), which sank 350 nm Northeast of Manila. The aircraft undertook four sorties and carried out visual, Radar/ Electro-Optic (EO)/ Infra-red (IR) searches in conjunction with Japan Coast Guard ships. Unfortunately, no survivors were detected. Out of a total of 26, 11 crew were rescued by MV Densa Cobra and five crew were rescued by MV SA Samarinda and were taken to Xiamim, China and Cagayan, Philippines respectively. As on date, 10 crew members are still missing.
