Navy Organises Blood Donation Camp at INS Virbahu
In keeping with the Navy's outreach initiatives for the community, A Blood Donation Camp was organized at INS Virbahu, the submarines base depot at Visakhapatnam on 09 March 2018 in collaboration with AS Raja Voluntary Blood Bank, Visakhapatnam. Commodore VR Peshwae, VSM Commodore Commanding Submarines (COMCOS) East and Commanding Officer INS Virbahu inaugurated the camp.
There was an overwhelming response from volunteers amongst the uniformed and Defence civilians. 160 personnel voluntarily donated blood which would help in saving 456 precious lives in need.
Commodore VR Peshwae interacted with the blood donors and expressed his appreciation for their noble and selfless act stating that donating blood was tantamount to donating life. All the donors were thoroughly screened and the blood collection was carried out under aseptic conditions by qualified personnel under the supervision of naval doctors. Post blood donation, all the donors were awarded a ‘Blood Donation Certificate’.
