Navy Holds a Multi-speciality Medical Camp at Hut Bay

A Multispecialty Medical Camp with specialists from INHS Dhanvantari and SHO (Port Blair) was conducted at Hut Bay on 11th and 12th of Nov 2011 by the Andaman and Nicobar Command with local support from Coast Guard Station and Primary Health center. The response of the public to the camp was enormous and immensely gratifying. A total of 196 patients including children, pregnant ladies, patients with chronic problems like diabetes and hypertension were examined on the first day. Eye check-up and Dental examinations were also conducted by the team. Ultrasound scanning was done at the location by the radiologist along with antenatal scans. Few serious and treatable conditions requiring immediate attention were diagnosed.

On 12th November the camp was jointly inaugurated by Tehsildar Mr Jeevraj Kishan and Commanding Officer of the Coast Guard station, Hut Bay. 889 patients were examined and necessary treatment was offered for majority of the patients including children. Diagnosis of cases was augmented by expert ultrasound scanning using the portable USG machine. Prior appointments for the pregnant ladies and other patients were arranged by the Officer Incharge PHC, Dr Helen.

1085 patients benefited from the two day Medical Camp. The Command Medical Officer emphasised the commitment of ANC to continue conducting such medical camps which will benefit the populace of these Islands.

The Andaman and Nicobar Command has been carrying out such medical and preventive health camps frequently as part of its Community Outreach Programme. Camps held in the past included locations as diverse as Neil Island, Car Nicobar, Kamorta, Long Island, Hut Bay, Diglipur and Campbell Bay. INHS Dhanvantari, and the medical team of ANC have always been at the forefront of all the health related activities of the Command. The Directorate of Health Services has also been participating in these camps on an equal footing by providing doctors, much needed equipment, medical stores and personnel for conduct of medical camps in these far flung Islands.
