Navika Sagar Parikrama - Circumnavigating the Globe on an Indian-Built Sail Boat INSV Tarini by Women Naval Officers: Page 142 of 153

Navika Sagar Parikrama Update 8 - Leg 1

INSV Tarini with its team of six women officers is heading South, approximately 1,670 nautical miles from her first port of call, Fremantle, Australia. Tarini is steadily heading towards the 'Tropic of Capricorn', located at about 23°27' South Latitude. At the winter solstice, around 21 December, the Sun is directly over the Tropic of Capricorn and lies within the boundaries of the constellation Sagittarius, having reached its southernmost declination in the ecliptic. Previously, however, it appeared in the constellation Capricornus at the winter solstice, hence the name Tropic of Capricorn. As majority of the Earth's land is located in the Northern hemisphere, there are only four countries entirely south of the Tropic of Capricorn - Lesotho, New Zealand, Swaziland and Uruguay. Best wishes to Team Tarini as she crosses into the Southern temperate zone.
