Naval Aviation Rolling Trophies Awarded

The Naval Flight Safety Seminar was held at Samudrika Auditorium, Visakhapatnam on 26 September 19. The Seminar was inaugurated by Vice Admiral SN Ghormade, AVSM, NM Chief of Staff, Eastern Naval Command (ENC). The annual event, held at the three Naval Commands on a rotational basis, was coordinated by INS Dega under the aegis of HQ ENC. The Seminar was attended by a number of senior officers, including Rear Admiral Philipose George Pynumootil, NM, Flag Officer Naval Aviation, Rear Admiral VM Doss, VSM, Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Air Materiel) and Rear Admiral Mukul Asthana, NM, Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Air), Integrated Headquarters, Ministry of Defence (Navy), a large number of senior officers of the Naval Air Arm, Commanding Officers of all the Air Stations and Air Squadrons of the Navy, and representatives from Indian Army, IAF, Indian Coast Guard and civil agencies across the country.

During the seminar, several papers on the themes ‘Preparing for a 450 Aircraft Acquisition Navy’ and ‘Honest Reporting to Enhance Safety Culture’ which has a direct bearing on Flight Safety were presented. The event also provided a platform for discussing several strategies, concepts and procedures to enhance Flight Safety.

On the occasion, Aviation Rolling Trophies for the year 2018-19 were also awarded. Vice Admiral SN Ghormade gave away the trophies to Captain Rahul Mehta of INAS 312, and to Commander P Santha Kumar, Commanding Officer of INAS 318. Chief of the Naval Staff Trophies for Flight Safety was won by INAS 303 for the Best Frontline Squadron, INAS 336 for the Best Training Squadron, and INS Teg Flight for the Best Shipborne Flight.

The seminar was preceded by a Naval Flight Safety Meeting that was held at Swarna Jyoti Auditorium on 25 September 2019. The meeting was chaired by Rear Admiral Philipose George Pynumootil, NM, Flag Officer Naval Aviation, and attended by representatives from IHQ MoD (Navy), all Naval Commands, Commanding Officers of Naval Air Stations/ Squadrons and Flight Safety Officers of all Air Stations of the Indian Navy. Various flight safety issues ranging from the analysis of aviation incidents/ accidents, precautions to prevent a recurrence, and other relevant matters related to Naval Aviation, along with way ahead to ensure accident/ incident free flying operations, were discussed during the meeting.
