Medical Evacuation at Maldives

The IN’s Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) detachment continues to provide yeoman service to Maldives in respect of outer island support and saving lives. The following activities are relevant:-

(a)    On 11 December 2017, a request was received by the ALH detachment at Male regarding medical evacuation of a 44 year old woman (Italian National) at night. The lady had suffered internal head and spinal injuries and needed medical attention. The ALH undertook evacuation of the patient from Kudhavadhu Island (45 nm South West of Male) to Male at night for further treatment.

(b)    On 15 December 2017, a request was received by the ALH detachment at Male regarding medical evacuation of a 92 year old patient from Nilandhoo Island (60 nm South West of Male) to Male. The patient was diagnosed with multiple cardiac myopathy and declared critically ill. The patient was expeditiously embarked onboard ALH and evacuated to Male for further treatment. Enroute, he was administered CPR by the flight attendant onboard aircraft.

(c) On 19 December 2017, two critically ill patients were evacuated by the ALH detachment from Ungafaru, Raa Atoll (80 nm North West of Male) to Male.

(d) On 30 December 2017, one critically ill patient was evacuated by the ALH detachment from Laamu Atoll (140 nm from Male) to Male.
