Indian Navy Participates in National Minicoy Festival

The 7th National Minicoy festival was held at Minicoy from 11 to 13 January 2019. The festival was inaugurated by Shri Farooq Khan, Chief Administrator of the Union Territory of Lakshadweep (UTL) on 11 January 2019. The Indian Navy participated in the festival and a stall was set up to educate the local population about the Indian Navy and procedures to join the Indian Navy.

An Operational Demonstration was conducted on 12 January 2019, with participation of ships of the First Training Squadron of Southern Naval Command, comprising INS Shardul, Sujata and ICGS Sarthi. The event included activities such as Beach Assault, Fast Interceptor Craft demonstration and flypasts by Dornier aircraft and Chetak helicopters.

The Operational Demonstration enthralled the local population, which had turned out in large numbers of over 10,000 and was also appreciated by the Chief Administrator UTL. Naval ships would also illuminate on the evening of 12 January 2019. A cultural programme and sports competition will be held on 13 January 2019.
