Inaugural Lakshadweep Navy Mini Marathon Conducted at Kavaratti

The Maiden Lakshadweep Navy Mini Marathon was conducted by the naval establishment, INS Dweeprakshak at Kavaratti, the capital of the Union Territory of Lakshadweep, on 29 December 2019 as a follow up to the Navy Week Celebrations-2019. More than 200 youths from Lakshadweep Islands and service personnel from various naval detachments in the islands participated in the Mini Marathon

The Mini Marathon was flagged off by Commander Souvir Ranjan Das, the Naval Officer-in-Charge (Lakshadweep). The event also saw enthusiastic participation from school children who were participating in a camp at Kavaratti from 24-29 December 2019.

Kanha Baghel, Seaman, from INS Dweeprakshak, Pankaj, Seaman, from Diving School (Kochi) and Mr Mohammad Rashid from Kiltan Island stood first, second and third in the marathon, clocking a time of 38 min flat, 38 min 2 sec and 38 min 5 sec respectively. The first ten girls who finished were also awarded special prizes for their participation in the race. The prizes were awarded by the Naval Officer-in-Charge during a ceremony held at the District Panchayat Headquarters, Kavaratti.
